Recommendations for control: Getting to the cause of the infestation is critical for control. Once found, wrap the infested item in heavy plastic and dispose of outside. A thorough inspection of all food items in the kitchen should be done. It is best to store items in clear, airtight containers to avoid infestation. Thoroughly clean the infested areas by vacuuming and immediately cleaning up any spills. These weevils can be killed off by heat or cold treating. Consider where the infestation came from and do not purchase items with small tears as they can already be infested in the store.

A pest management professional can help control large infestations of granary weevils.
