How do I identify a Drain Fly?
Color: Tan to grayish in color.
Size: Adults are usually 1/16"-3/16" long. These flies are typically recognized because their bodies and wings are very hairy or fuzzy.

Have Drain Flies infested your home?
Drain flies are poor fliers so they are often sited crawling along a wall or other surface, they do fly but only short distances. They breed in clogged drains indoors or sewage filters outdoors. They like moisture and tend to hover over these damp, slimy places particularly in the evening.

Will Drain Flies bite?
No, drain flies do not bite or sting.

Will Drain Flies damage my home or structure?
Drain flies will not cause damage to the home, they are simply a nuisance.

Recommendations for control:

Locate the breeding area be it a drain, potted plant, slimy garbage pail, sewer, etc. and clean thoroughly. Remove the breeding site if possible. If found in a clogged drain remove all debris that is accessible and use a chemical solvent to open the drain. Clean the area thoroughly.

If a large population seems to exist they are likely to be breeding in an outdoor sewage filter bed. In order to gain control it is highly recommended that you contact a pest management professional.
